Mineral processing is also known as mineral dressing, or milling, which is used to extract the valuable minerals in the ores from gangue. It is widely used in the selection of metallic ores, coal and other non-metallic ones.

There are two fundamental operations in mineral processing, which are release and liberation respectively. Minerals should be first separated therefore the useful ones could be selected and concentrated. Separation method can be depended on the following five properties, including radioactive, gravity, surface, magnetic, and electrical conductivity, etc.

Comminution and concentration are the two primary operations in mineral processing, and many other important steps are involved, among which are sizing of the ore at different pulps, using thickeners, filters, and driers.
